About Meningitis:

About Blood Pressure:
It's thought there are 5.5 million people in the UK who have high blood pressure but don't know they have it. This means the heart has to work harder and the blood vessels are under more strain, making it a major risk factor for stroke and heart attack. The risk of high blood pressure rises with age but it's also more common if you have diabetes or a family history of high blood pressure. Eating a lot of salt, not exercising regularly, being overweight, drinking a lot of alcohol and stress also increase your risk.

About Impetigo:
Impetigo is a common infection of the skin. It is contagious, which means it can be passed on by touching. It's most commonly seen in in young children, but it can affect people of any age.
There are several different types of impetigo. The medical name for the most common is non-bullous impetigo. It usually starts with small fluid-filled blisters, which burst and leave golden crusting scabs (like cornflakes) on the skin. Another kind is Bullous Impetigo, which forms larger blisters and peels away leaving red and raw skin underneath. It can affect your face, arms, legs, or bottom and is more common in areas you have eczema or another skin condition.
This service is only for treatment of non-bullous impetigo.

Is this service right for me?
This service is for people aged 2 years old and over. It is not suitable for you if you have:
Large blisters with thin skin that may peel off, leaving large red raw areas underneath, that last 2-3 days or more; or
Impetigo in several different places; or
Pain or a lot of inflammation around the affected area; or
Had treatment for impetigo in the last four weeks; or
Had more than two episodes of impetigo in the last year; or
Had an allergic reaction to fusidic acid or similar cream.

About Otitis Media:
Ear infections are common, particularly amongst children. Most ear infections are self-limiting and will get better within 3 days however some may persist and be severe, so they require treatment. There are different types of ear infection, inner, middle and outer. Acute otitis media is a middle ear infection usually caused by a virus or bacteria that causes inflammation and build-up of fluid behind the ear drum. In children, symptoms include tugging at the ear, fever, poor feeding and restlessness, and in older people can present as ear pain, hearing loss, difficulty balancing, or lethargy.

Is this service suitable for me?
This service is only available for children aged 1 years to 17 years with the symptoms above. This service is not suitable for individuals who:
Have a high fever over 39 degrees Celsius; Have not responded treatment for this ear infection; Have had 3 or more ear infections in the last 6 months or 4 or more ear infections in the last 12 months - one of which has been in the last 6 months; Are pregnant AND under 16years of age; Are immunosuppressed; Are following a ketogenic diet; Have kidney or liver disease; Have received the oral typhoid vaccine within the last 3 days or will received the vaccine within the next 3 days.

About cystitis/UTI:
Cystitis in women is common. One in three women will have had cystitis by the age of 24 and about half of women have at least one bout of cystitis in their lives. It is usually caused by germs which usually live on the skin around the vagina getting into the bladder up the urethra (the tube your urine comes out of). It can be a really uncomfortable and painful condition, with symptoms such as: Burning or stinging when you pass urine; Needing to get up in the night for the bathroom when you don't normally need to; or your urine looking cloudy or fuzzy.

Is this service suitable for me?
This service is for women aged 18-64 years who have two or more symptoms of cystitis above. It is not suitable for women who:
Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Have vaginal discharge or irritation.
Have pain in the loin (in the back on one side) and/or a fever.
Have blood in their urine.
Have anaemia (including shortage of folic acid or vitamin B12) or other blood disorders.
Have problems with their immune system.
Have diabetes, kidney, lung or liver problems.
Have a catheter in place or are on dialysis.
Have had kidney stones or renal colic.
Are allergic to nitrofurantoin and trimethoprim.
Are taking other antibiotics or the combined oral contraceptive pill.

Insect bites and stings are common and are usually not serious. Common biters in the UK include midges, fleas, mosquitoes and even ladybirds. Symptoms of infection include redness that spreads, swelling, pain/tenderness, the area being hot to the touch and the presence of puss or nasty spots forming over the bite.

About shingles:
Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. The virus remains dormant in the nerve roots after you have had chickenpox. It does no harm and causes no symptoms but can become reactivated later in life. The reactivated virus travels along a single nerve to the skin. You cannot catch shingles, but you can catch chickenpox from someone with shingles if you have not already had it. Symptoms include a blister-like painful rash on a small part of the body, a fever, and general unwellness for a few days. The rash can last up to 4 weeks!

However, sometimes, sore throats can be caused by bacteria which may need to be treated with antibiotics. About Sinusitis:
Sinusitis means inflammation of a sinus. Most episodes of sinusitis are caused by an infection. The cheekbone (maxillary) sinuses are most commonly affected. Mild episodes of acute sinusitis are common and many people will have a degree of sinusitis with a cold. Infections usually will usually resolve with over-the-counter treatment or on its own. Symptoms include a blocked or runny nose, headache, tiredness, a feeling of 'stuffed up'-ness, thick nasal discharge, toothache, fever, and pain or tenderness around the sinuses especially when bending down.
