Emergency contraception does not protect against sexually transmitted infections and will be ineffective after 5 days. About Emergency Contraceptive pills: If you have unprotected (vaginal) sex and have not gone through the menopause, you are at risk of becoming pregnant. The Levonorgestrel pill can be taken up to 72 hours (three days) after unprotected sex. The Ulipristal Acetate pill can be taken up to 120 hours (five days) after unprotected sex. The earlier you take emergency contraceptive pills, the more effective they are likely to be. Is this service suitable for me? More info
Initiation: where a person wishes to start the pill for the first time, needs to restart the pill following a pill free break or when a person needs to be switched to an alternative pill. This service is a free NHS service where our pharmacist will undertake a consultation to assess if the pill is clinically appropriate by checking your medical records, measuring your blood pressure and your height and weight. About the oral contraceptive pill: There are two main types of oral contraceptive pill. The combined oral contraceptive (COC) pill contains two hormones – oestrogen and progestogen. It used to be recommended that women take a tablet every day for three weeks, then take a week off during which they would have a period. This guidance has now changed and some women may choose to take several packs of COC without a break. The progestogen-only pill contains one hormone – a type of progestogen. This pill needs to be taken at the same time every day, without a break. Stop Smoking Support - NHS
30 mins · Free
More info
This is a free NHS service for support, advice, treatments and follow-up to help you stop smoking. Why stop smoking? The benefits from stopping smoking begin straight away. Within three days, breathing becomes easier – your airways begin to relax and your energy levels increase. If you stop smoking before the age of 50 you can almost completely get rid of the risk of dying early. Even if you give up after the age of 60, your risk of dying at any given age is reduced by about 39% compared to a person who carries on smoking. Quitting 'cold turkey' is the least effective way to quit. To help you quit for good, our Pharmacist and Stop Smoking Adviser can work with you to create a tailored plan. Together, you can work out how to avoid your smoking triggers and which of the smoking cessation aids below will work best for you. They’ll offer follow-up and support every step of the way. They can also provide you with treatment such as Nicotine Replacement Therapy e.g. patches and gum, free on the NHS or refer you to Smokestop Hampshire or Dorset for authorisation to supply Varenicline, a prescription only medicine (use to be called Champix).

Blood Pressure Check - NHS
15 mins · Free
More info
This service is a free Blood Pressure Check for people aged 40 and over that have not been diagnosed with any pressure problems. About Blood Pressure: It's thought there are 5.5 million people in the UK who have high blood pressure but don't know they have it. High blood pressure happens when the force on the walls of blood vessels (caused by the blood within them) is more than normal. This means the heart has to work harder and the blood vessels are under more strain, making it a major risk factor for stroke and heart attack. The risk of high blood pressure rises with age but it's also more common if you have diabetes or a family history of high blood pressure. Eating a lot of salt, not exercising regularly, being overweight, drinking a lot of alcohol and stress also increase your risk. Is this service suitable for me? This service is available to you if you are 40 years of age or over, are not having regular blood pressure checks at your practice and have not been diagnosed with high blood pressure. Your Pharmacist may also be able to offer this service if: You are 35-39 years old and have not had a recent blood pressure check; You are under the age of 40 and have a recognised family history of high blood pressure; Or your GP has requested that you visit a pharmacy to have your blood pressure checked. If your Pharmacist finds that your blood pressure is raised, they will offer a more detailed blood pressure assessment. This involves wearing a blood pressure monitor (which they will lend you and show you how to use) for 24 hours.

If you have a stiff neck, are sensitive to light, have a very high fever, or have difficulty breathing, or a red-purple rash anywhere on the body, call 999 immediately. Ask - Could it be meningitis? This service is for anyone over the age of 5. If you are under 16, you will need a responsible adult with you at the appointment. About Sore Throats: Sore throats are very common, especially in winter. They are usually caused by a viral infection, so antibiotics will not help. A sore throat typically gets worse over two to three days and then usually gradually goes within a week. You do not usually need tests, and regular painkillers should help you cope until the symptoms settle. However, sometimes, sore throats can be caused by bacteria which may need to be treated with antibiotics. These sore throats come with symptoms such as pus on the tonsils, inflammation on the tonsils, and discomfort severe enough that you're looking for help in the first 48 hours of onset. Is this service right for me? This service is available for adults and children aged 5 year and over, with the symptoms above. This service is not suitable for individuals who: Have had their tonsils removed; Have not responded to previous treatment with antibiotics for this episode of sore throat; Suffer from recurrent sore throat or tonsillitis; Are immunosuppressed, or have been told to seek medical help straight away if you get a sore throat; Are currently taking medicines known to cause affect white blood cell count (e.g. methotrexate, sulfasalazine, carbimazole, all chemotherapy); Are currently taking a short course of high dose steroids or have done in the past month; Are currently prescribed long-term use of antibiotics; Are taking drugs which could affect potassium levels; Are following a ketogenic diet; Are pregnant AND under 16 years of age; Have kidney or disease; Have received the oral typhoid vaccine within the last 3 days or will be receiving the vaccine within the next 3 days. Please note, the cost of the consultation is free of charge. However, should you require treatment i.e a course of antibiotics, an NHS prescription charge will be applied, unless you are exempt from prescription charges.
